Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 – An unbiased review

The Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 is definitely made to attract the young generation of cell phone users, who look for a high end feature list in a cheap cell phone. The company has done well in integration a lot of features targeted towards those who are active on social networking websites and want their cell phone to work as a gaming console, a navigation device and a music player too. Here we are presenting an unbiased review of this cheap cell phone, to make sure you make the right choice.

·         The Design:

Let’s be fair, the Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 won’t win any awards when it comes to its design. However, on that budget there isn’t much innovation going on with other manufacturers as well. Still the phone features a slim body design, which is quite similar to what we see in the entire range of Galaxy Smartphones launched by the company. There is a dedicated hardware button in the center, surrounded by two touch buttons on the front, a volume rocker on one side and a power on/off button on the other. The top features the micro USB slot and the 3.5mm headphone socket.
·         The hardware and software:
Weighing in at 97.5 grams, the Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 features a 3-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, which supports multi-touch. Running Android Gingerbread, the device is powered by an 830MHz ARMv6 CPU with no additional GPU. On the camera side, you’ll have to suffice with a 2MP primary shooter that also records QVGA videos at 15fps. Apart from 290MB user available RAM, the device has an internal storage memory of 180MB, which can be enhanced to up to 32GB with a MicroSD memory expansion card. Other standard features include Wi-Fi, 3G browsing, GPS with A-GPS support and a music player.

·         The Pros:

This pretty standard device features decent hardware specifications, especially the processor which is clocked to 830MHz – much more than what you can usually find at this price band. Moreover, the device runs on Android Gingerbread which is being claimed to be one of the best and the most stable versions of the operating system developed till date. Moreover, the device comes with a lot of pre-loaded apps that includes a document viewer. Also on the feature list is seamless integration to social networking websites such as Facebook and Swype text input to make sure typing on this small device isn’t difficult.

·         The Cons:

While in this price bracket we can’t expect more, but still there are a few things that should have been improved by Samsung. Measuring just 3-inches the display is the first thing that you will never be proud of. Moreover, the display resolution is much lower than what many apps available on the Google Play Store require. Further, the 2MP camera comes with fixed focus and no flash support, so you won’t be able to click your best shots with it.

The device also lacks a dedicated graphics processing unit, which means you will someday have to tackle a sluggish display. Moreover, the device also lacks Adobe Flash support too.
·         The Bottom Line:

While the Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 is definitely good for those who are either new to Android and want to test out things on a cheap cell phone before getting on with higher-end models or who just want an Android cell phone with pretty much the most basic of functionalities. For those who want to play games, record HD videos or even video chat, the Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 will definitely not appease them.
